Current Securus CEO Richard A. Smith has been CEO and President of Securus Technologies Inc. Since June 23, 2008. Securus Technologies is an American prison technology company based in Dallas, Texas. It was founded in 1986, and has locations in Carrolton, Tx, Allen,Tx , and Atlanta, GA. The company introduced to the world a system to control contraband cellphones; and in 2016 the company managed to receive approval from more than five department of correctional facilities.Richard Smith truly endured a lot of schooling to get where he is today. Richard Smith has obtained an Associates Degree from Rochester Institute Of Technology, A Master’s Degree in Engineering from State University of New York, A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo, and an MBA from The University of Rochester. This shows that in order to become CEO of one of the most innovative companies in the world, it takes hard work.
Prior to working with Securus Technologies Rick Smith worked for Eschelon Telecom Inc. He worked in many departments and was always getting promoted because of his multitude of knowledge in business. He joined Eschelon Telecom Inc. in the year 1998 and was appointed the Chief Financial Officer. From the year 1999, he was the Chief Operations Officer of the Company and then in the year 2000, he was promoted to the director, then president of the company. Three years later he was again promoted to the Chief Executive Officer of the company. Before Eschelon, Rick Smith worked for Global Crossing, and then Frontier Corp, where he was named the VP of Financial Management.
He stayed there from 1992-1997.Now, Richard Smith is the head of a company that is a leading provider of civil and criminal technology for the incarcerated.
